OnSite/Insight 2009 Site-Specific Art Projects
Our Theme: "Think With Your Senses, Feel With Your Mind"
Funded by a generous grant from the McCarthey-Dressman Educational Foundation
This year, our program has expanded to include students from our elementary and high school PEC classes. Our 2009 projects include three major, permanent sculptures at Hammond's House Museum, M. Agnes Jones Elementary School, and South Atlanta School of Computer Design. We are also piloting a special visual-performing arts project at Carver School of the Arts. Below are a selection of preliminary designs for the Hammond's House Museum and M. Agnes Jones sculpture drawn by students at Carver School of the Arts, Grady High School, and Washington High School. Teaching artist Jeff Mather worked with students at these schools during the first semester.
Below you will also see photos from our trip to the Sculpture in Motion exhibit at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, and Grady High School's rainy sculpture-planning visit to M.A. Jones Elementary. We will be posting photos soon from our first semester trips to the High Museum of Art.
We will be posting information on the projects at the Carver School of the Arts (with teaching artist Marquetta Johnson) and South Atlanta High School soon.
We welcome Fickett Elementary School to the OnSite/Insight program!
OnSite/Insight Art Teachers: Felicia Waldon (Carver SOTA); John Brandhorst (Grady HS); Sachi Rome-Richardson (Washington HS); Courtney Bryant and Tokie Rome (S. Atlanta HS); Andy Kerr (Fickett ES); and Raymond Veon (MA Jones ES).
